According to media reports Real Madrid might sell several of it’s Dutch stars after President Perez claimed that the Spanish squad needs has become to large and needs to be trimmed down. The cull could be as big as up to 10 players and Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Royston Drenthe and Klaas Jan Huntelaar are all tipped to depart the Spanish capital.
Should we be interested in any of these players, can they improve our squad?
After the signings of both Michael Owen and Antonia Valencia we might not need anyone anymore in the offensive department but questions will still rise and our need for a lethal striker hasn’t been filled yet. With RVN rumoured to be available, one can only wonder if he is the guy who could fill the hole and if Rooney and Berba could play together with the prolific Dutch striker. There is no doubt that these two players would be able to provide RVN with the needed amount of passes to terrorize every defense again and become top scorer once more in this country. But are burnt bridges recoverable?
Huntelaar has enjoyed a rather good first 6 months at Real with 8 goals in 20 appearances (40% strike rate) but might struggle to get time in the first squad after the arrival of Kaka, Ronaldo and Benzema. He is rumoured to be loaned out to Milan. With all the talk about Ribery, I always wonder why the name of former Chelsea star Arjen Robben isn’t mentioned. I have always been a fan of the fast, dribbling winger. I admit he has often struggled with injuries but our the medical staff at OT has more than once performed wonders ((Brown, Neville, RVN just to mention three recent names and I am sure that Owen Hargreaves will return stronger as well next season)) and Robben fits our game. Plus… he regularly scores.
Do we need someone else for our squad? Should we look to improve other departments? Defense or defensive midfield?
